FAQ
Common questions, honest answers
BrassTranscripts Legal is a focused offering — not the right fit for every law firm matter, and not pretending to be. Below: what we do, what we don't do, and where the lines are.
Are AI transcripts admissible in court?
AI transcripts are not certified court documents and cannot replace certified court reporter transcripts for official filings. They are widely used for case preparation, deposition review, internal documentation, and AI-assisted analysis. Most law firms adopt an AI-first / certify-as-needed workflow: AI-transcribe everything for working copies, then order certified transcripts only for the recordings filed with the court.
What accuracy can I expect?
BrassTranscripts Legal uses an advanced AI transcription engine that handles common legal terminology including case citations, statutory references, and procedural language at professional-grade accuracy for clear audio. Specialized terminology (medical-legal, patent claims construction, heavy accents, multilingual proceedings) requires attorney review and correction. Audio quality is the biggest factor — clear, single-speaker-at-a-time recordings transcribe best.
How is my data handled?
Audio is stored encrypted at rest and deleted 24 hours after upload via an automated daily cleanup. Paid transcripts are retained for 10 days from payment, then deleted. Unpaid or failed transcripts are deleted 48 hours after upload. Customer audio and transcripts are never used for AI model training. See the Data Handling page for the full picture.
Do you offer a BAA or HIPAA compliance?
No. BrassTranscripts Legal does not offer a Business Associate Agreement, is not HIPAA-compliant, and holds no SOC2 attestation. Buyers whose work requires those certifications should obtain transcription from a vendor that does. The Data Handling page details what we do and don't claim.
What file formats and sizes are supported?
Eleven formats: nine audio (MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, Opus, WebM, MPGA) and two video (MP4, MPEG). Maximum 250 MB per file, up to 2 hours of audio per file. For longer recordings, split into segments and upload as separate files in the bulk batch.
How does pricing work?
Pay-per-batch with no subscription. $6 per file at 1-5 files, scaling to $3 per file at 250+ files. A 50-file case batch costs $200 total ($4 per file in the 50-99 tier). Pricing is per file regardless of duration up to the 2-hour-per-file limit. See the Pricing page for the full tier table.
Is there a minimum file count?
No. You can run a single-file batch at $6 if that's what your case requires. The bulk pricing tiers reward larger batches but the service has no minimum.
What languages are supported?
99+ languages with automatic detection. The transcription engine identifies the spoken language without manual configuration. For multilingual proceedings (e.g., interpreter present), the engine handles language switches but accuracy varies — review carefully for multilingual recordings.
How fast is processing?
1-3 minutes of processing per hour of audio. A 90-minute deposition is back in under 5 minutes. A 50-file batch processes in parallel and completes in roughly the same time as the longest single file in the batch — typically under 10 minutes for case-batch volume.
Can I get refunds?
Refunds on paid bulk batches are handled on a case-by-case basis given the volume nature of bulk processing. Contact support within 7 days of payment if you have quality concerns about a batch and we will work with you to make it right. See the Terms of Service for the full refund framework and anti-abuse policy.
Where does the dashboard live?
After signup, your bulk dashboard lives at brasstranscripts.com/bulk/[your-slug]. The legal subdomain is the marketing front door; the dashboard runs on the main BrassTranscripts platform with the same backend and the same support team. The first-time crossover from legal-branded signup to main-branded dashboard is intentional — you're using the same proven bulk infrastructure that processes thousands of files monthly.
How do I get a new dashboard link?
Visit the bulk login page on the main BrassTranscripts site, enter your email, and a fresh dashboard link will be sent. The previous link remains valid briefly during rotation; the new link supersedes it.
